You may have noticed that it’s a pretty big week for social networking profile pages. Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube…well, that’s about it, but still. It’s kind of a big deal. YouTube announced its new profile page a few days before it was actually available, but the new personalized profile page is finally […]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “YouTube Personalized Homepages Now Live”, url: “http://mashable.com/2008/02/29/youtube-personalized-homepage-live/” });

A few weeks ago, we broke the news that 5AM Ventures is nurturing a stealthy startup called — for now — ImmunoNewco. The trail led back to the Danish biotech Borean Pharma, which is developing protein-based drugs against autoimmune conditions, and which may be in the process of transferring some or all of its programs […]

Like a ballet, a patent lawsuit has dozens of carefully orchestrated steps, and today’s judgment against Limelight Networks marks the beginning of the exciting part of the show, which could drag on for years, or get cut short by a settlement. Earlier today a jury in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts found Limelight guilty […]

What it does
Based in Mumbai, ClearTrip aims to make travel simpler. The site specializes in travel within and from India. You’ll find the usual search parameters: round trip or one way, from and to, departure and return dates and number of adults, infants, and children. New flight deals are listed on the homepage. There’s a calendar feature which lists bargain fares by day. You’ll also find a daily graph indicating departure times for various Indian airlines. Although, they don’t cover international destinations, Cleartrip does include a section called Small World in which they provide facts and descriptions of countries around the world. International hotel booking is available. Cleartrip also has a section devoted especially to train travel in India.
In their own words
“Cleartrip is dedicated to making travel simple
But it’s hard to make things easy, so we’ve put together an experienced team with oodles of global experience in travel and ecommerce. Cleartrippers come in all shapes and sizes; and we’re all passionate about just one thing - Making travel simple.
Cleartrip.com is the travel site that gives you what you need without any annoying fluff. Who needs banners, pop-ups and blinking glitz? Search, book, go. That’s what we’re about - Making travel simple.”
Why it might be a killer
ClearTrip offers a no frills travel operator. It’s basic, without any gratuitous extras. Users will find it easy to use.
Some questions
Will ClearTrip expand beyond India? Will they add RSS feeds? What about price comparison tools?

What it does
PreCydent is a new legal search engine in alpha. It was developed with the aim that everyone—law students, lawyers, and the public at large—should have free and easy access to legal resources. This legal Google, provides information that spans the judicial sphere. You’ve got opinions, statures, legal questions, congressional records, and links. Advanced search parameters allow you to search as per most authorative cases and by chronological order—ordered by decade (after or before X decade), most recent, and by last years of importance meaning you can give more weight to cases that have gotten more citations in any given period. Most files are available as PDF and for download.
In their own words
“The PreCYdent Team is very happy to welcome you to the “alpha” version of our new legal research website. By “alpha” we mean that our site is still in its early development. Thus we would value highly the comments and suggestions regarding our service.
PreCYdent is based on two fundamental principles. First, we at PreCYdent believe that all lawyers, law librarians, law students, and the general public should have access to state-of-the-art search technology to help them navigate through the large and complex body of legal authority. We have heard law students ask, as perhaps you have, about online legal research: “Why can’t I just do my search with a few search words, like I do on Google?” PreCYdent has an answer to that question: Now you can. Second, we believe judicial opinions and statutes must be in the public domain, in practice as well as in theory. To us this means that effective legal research in all of these materials should be free to the user — not expensive, not inexpensive. Free. We believe this principle is of vital importance not only to the United States, but to all nations that practice or aspire to practice the rule of law. “
Why it might be a killer
This site opens up the legal arena to everyone, not just highly paid lawyers. Anyone interested in learning more about the law can easily search the site and find relevant and useful information. It’s got powerful filtering capabilities too.
Some questions
You can tell that the site is still in alpha. It’s got a sterile, nondescript interface. It seems to be unstable, as the links don’t work at all times.

uGenGames is not simply a gaming site. Yes, you can play games, there are plenty of them to choose from, however, why limit yourself to playing, when you can create your own? As the name suggests, uGenGames is a portal for Flash developers, graphic designers and games enthusiasts. They can design and customize their own games using the site’s API. There’s also a chance to win money. Uploaded games may only be in Adobe Flash SWF file format; games with widths more than 560 pixels will be resized. Games can easily be embedded in blogs and social networks such as Facebook and Myspace. Of course, if you’re not into making your own games, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. Some of the more attention-grabbing games include ‘Kick my Ass,’ ‘Pimp My Sleigh,’ and ‘Muck About’. As you can see, the developers like to keep it interesting.
In their own words
“ugenGames is a Consumer online User Generated Games portal for players, developers and graphic designers, allowing them to create & upload, customize and share web and mobile Flash based games.
ugenGames site serves as a unique way for users to mix their media with existing game engines and share their personalized games alongside friends. Anyone can add their own game engine or graphics to ugenGames library in a process that.s fast and simple..
It’s easy, fun and can be rewarding !
Any ugenGames can be embedded on a blog page (MySpace, Facebook, Blogger…) a forum or anywhere on the Web.”
Why it might be a killer
Anyone willing and wishing to whet their whistle making games will appreciate this site. It lets you flex your Flash muscles and develop, cute, smart and entertaining games that will be enjoyed by the masses. Game lovers, on the other hand are guaranteed fresh, new games frequently.
Some questions
Do game developers get to license their games? How are contest winners decided?

Hate messing with old-school printers and copy machines to figure out how to assemble booklets (which page goes where and which way does it go in the copier)? Try BookletCreator, a free web tool that lets you turn any PDF into a printable booklet. BookletCreator will reorder a PDF’s pages and layout so that it’s printable as a booklet. You don’t have to mess with staples either if you don’t want to. BookletCreator will even send you back an extra copy to keep or print on other devices. Once printed, just follow BookletCreator’s folding instructions to make yourself a booklet or two. If the document is larger than eight pages, there’s an option to split the document into multiple booklets. Or if you just want to print a few pages, you can do that too. It’s free and there’s no registration required.
In their own words
“BookletCreator - is a free online tool that allows to create a booklet from a PDF document. It reorders pages so that after printing and folding the pages you get a small book.”
Why it might be a killer

Some questions
How will BookletCreator generate revenue to allow it to stay afloat? Will users find it easy to use? Or will they want more?
